Perhaps nothing positively impacts the growth and development of young people as international travel to Africa. To visit other lands and cultures, learning how the world works alongside others is an eye-opening, priceless experience.

The AHDA Work/Study and Cultural Exchange Program is a life-changing experience offered annually to selected graduating high school students from Israel – giving them the opportunity to travel to Kenya, East Africa for four weeks in the summer after graduation. The purpose is to give young people an opportunity to travel and learn about another land and its arts, sports, culture and work in a development project to assist cooperating communities. We have found that such experiences build character and confidence in youth, encouraging leadership skills and global awareness – that lasts a lifetime.

Young people are chosen on the basis of academic achievement, community and class participation, and personality skills. They visit a variety of locations to engage them both mentally and physically. Among them:

The Nairobi National Museum
Fort Jesus in Mombasa
The Elephant Orphanage, The Giraffe Park and The Nairobi Safari
Jamba Mtwana Ruins of an African Village where people were taken into slavery from the East Coast of Africa into the Arabian Lands

They engage in:

Water sports such as Kayaking, SCUBA Diving, Sailing and Wind Surfing
Organic Agricultural Training, Marketing and Sales Seminars
Hiking and biking through forest preserves
Life Management Training
Community Development Activities
Value-added natural food production… and more!
